Geneva Public Library is kicking off its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge on June 1, and the program is open to readers of all ages, not just kids.

Here's what to know:

  • How it works: Participants track their reading progress on a newly redesigned gameboard or online at gpld.org. Prizes are awarded at the 10, 20, and 30-point milestones, with entries into grand prize gift basket drawings along the way.

  • Registration: Opens Monday, June 1, both online and in-person at the Summer Reading Challenge desk in the library lobby at 227 S. Seventh St. in Geneva.

  • Kick-off event: To get things started, the library is hosting a free drop-in show on Friday, June 6 from 3–4PM in the Meeting Room, featuring magician Ken Mate. The event lands on Geneva's monthly First Friday and is open to all ages — no registration required.

The library cited research showing that summer reading programs help prevent learning loss and improve academic performance in the fall.

“Beyond the educational benefits, the Summer Reading Challenge is just plain fun!” said Kaitlyn Ewoldt, Programming Coordinator at Geneva Public Library.

The challenge runs through July 31. Learn more and register at gpld.org.
