Geneva officials approved plans for a new daycare at 501 Lark Street (just south of Delnor Hospital) during Monday’s City Council meeting.

Geneva’s Planning & Zoning Commission previously advanced the proposal after reviewing the project’s site layout challenges, requested zoning variations, and traffic considerations.

According to city documents, the applicant requested three variations needed to make the project feasible while keeping traffic flow and neighborhood character in mind.

Key things you should know

  • Project details: The developer plans to demolish the existing chiropractic office and build a new childcare center with a redesigned parking lot and fenced outdoor play area near Delnor Hospital at the corner of Keslinger Road and Randall Road.

  • Some public pushback: During public comment, two nearby residents urged the city to reconsider the location, citing traffic congestion, crash history at the Randall Road and Keslinger Road intersection, and concerns about parking capacity during daily drop-off and pick-up periods.

  • Traffic and parking: Most daycare traffic occurs during short pick-up and drop-off windows. In city documents, staff noted that 45 spaces should sufficiently serve the use and prevent overflow onto Lark Street, and the existing driveway would remain.

According to documents, the facility will serve children age 6 weeks to six years old, have a maximum capacity of 173 students, and employ about 28 teachers.
