Geneva High School's spring musical doubles as a 150th anniversary celebration this year, with performances of "Chicago" running April 23–25 in the school auditorium.
The Saturday schedule pairs a matinee with an open house and pasta dinner to mark the school's sesquicentennial milestone.
Here's what to know:
Three shows, two days: Evening performances run at 7PM on Thursday (4/23), Friday (4/24), and Saturday (4/25) — with a 2PM Saturday matinee as well. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, available here.
Saturday celebration: Between the matinee and evening show on April 25, the school hosts an open house at 4PM and a pasta dinner at 5PM ($15 per person, kids 6 and under free). Dinner proceeds go to the theater department.
The production: The jazz-era musical follows Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly as they manipulate public attention to dodge murder convictions — a storyline the school connects to modern conversations about media and perception.
Behind the scenes: Co-directors Drew Longo and Jay Fontanetta lead the production, with choreography by Kyle Donahue and music direction by Riley Carter. Senior stage manager Emily Tuman says the set design is unlike anything the school has done before.
For the senior class, this is their final high school stage production, and the 150th anniversary backdrop adds an exciting twist to their send-off.
