The Geneva Garden Club is awarding $5,000 in scholarships to three local students this spring and following it up with its popular annual plant sale a few days later.
Scholarship recipients Ella Bradley, Lily Wilson, and Claire Jennings will be recognized at the club's May luncheon meeting on Tuesday, May 12 at the Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center in Geneva.
Here's what else to know:
Scholarship luncheon on May 12: Doors open at 11AM at 3507 Kaneville Rd. in Geneva, with the program starting at noon after lunch. Guests are welcome.
Spring plant sale on May 16: Hundreds of perennials, native plants, annuals, succulents, houseplants, and vegetables — all grown by club members — go on sale from 8:30AM to 12:30PM at 2360 Kaneville Rd. in Geneva. Gently used garden art will also be available.
Expect a crowd: The sale tends to sell out early. Master Gardeners will be on hand to help, and parking is available across the street at Chapel Street Church. Zelle, cash, check, and credit cards accepted.
Proceeds from the plant sale support community projects and student scholarships. The scholarships go to Geneva students pursuing studies in horticulture, landscaping, environmental sustainability, or a closely related field.
