Geneva officials are considering financial assistance to help bring a new east-side restaurant to life.

Honeybird, planned by the owners of nearby Riganato, would occupy 427 E. State St. and offer both take-out and sit-down dining.

Here’s what to know:

  • The Committee of the Whole is reviewing an economic incentive agreement that would reimburse up to $135,883 through sales tax or TIF revenue.

  • Honeybird’s total retrofitting costs are estimated conservatively at about $700K, with the city’s contribution making up 13% of the full project cost.

  • The agreement is designed to provide flexibility depending on future TIF fund availability, which remains uncertain due to ongoing East State Street construction financing.

City staff noted the proposal aligns with previous TIF-supported projects and would help strengthen the business mix east of the river.
