The United Methodist Church of Geneva’s spring rummage sale isn’t your average church fundraiser. This long-running community event, powered by 80+ volunteers and years of tradition, raised more than $20,000 for charity this April.

But the impact goes beyond the donation total. By giving new life to secondhand goods, the sale also keeps items out of landfills and supports the church’s commitment to sustainability.

A recap of this year’s sale:

  • Volunteers spend a full week prepping, collecting donations, sorting, and pricing items before the three-day sale begins.

  • The sale set a new fundraising record, with proceeds going to causes like Hesed House, World Relief, Lazarus House and local animal shelters.

  • Unsold items are donated to area nonprofits or recycled through Kane County — almost nothing ends up in the trash.
