A new self-service art exchange has opened outside the ARC Gallery in downtown St. Charles, giving residents a free way to view, take, or leave original artwork any time of year.
The St. Charles Arts Council unveiled the Free Little Art Gallery this week as the first of two planned locations, with another gallery set to open in fall 2026.
Here's what to know:
How it works: The free-standing container is open to all ages and skill levels, and community members can stop by to browse, contribute, or take a piece of art home.
Where to find it: The gallery sits outside the ARC Gallery at 121 N. 2nd Street in St. Charles, the Arts Council's exhibition and learning space.
Built locally: Longtime Arts Council member and woodworker Bill Bergeson designed and built the gallery, with a second location already in the works.
Always open: The Arts Council plans to keep the gallery accessible year-round, weather permitting.
