Thanks to a new grant program, the planter displays outside Farmdog Flowers in downtown Batavia are refreshed and ready to go.
Batavia MainStreet awarded its first Downtown Design Grant to the flower shop at 239 W. Wilson St., which helped pay to replace planter boxes that had started to fall apart after years of seasonal use.
Here's what to know:
What the grant pays for: The program funds permanent exterior upgrades and public art downtown, including awnings, storefront signage, façade and window work, exterior lighting, murals, and sculptures.
The funding pool: There's $10,000 available this cycle, and individual award amounts are set by the Batavia MainStreet Design Committee.
Who can apply: Brick-and-mortar businesses and property owners inside Batavia MainStreet's Special Service Area, the downtown district where properties pay an additional property tax to fund MainStreet's work.
The first-round deadline passed in May, but MainStreet is still accepting applications on a rolling basis while funds last. Learn more here.
