After months of discussion and a petition with over 500 signatures in support, Elburn trustees have officially voted against allowing golf carts on local roads.
The unanimous decision came down to concerns about safety, enforcement, and the limited areas where golf carts could legally operate.
Costs: The village noted that traffic studies and other research would be needed before moving forward, which would mean additional costs for the village.
Limited use: State law already blocks golf carts from using highways or roads over 35 mph, which includes nearby major routes like 47 and 38.
Tricky regulation: Some officials expressed doubt that residents would follow those restrictions, raising concerns about liability and rule enforcement.
