Elburn launched its a new Concert in the Park event series in May, and the village is already considering changes to keep the series running smoothly, including a new rule about alcohol in public parks.
Here's what to know:
The series: The Elburn Parks Commission is hosting free outdoor concerts on the third Friday of every month at Prairie Park, 101 N. Third Street. Dates run through August, with shows on June 19, July 17, and August 21, all from 7–9PM. Beggars Banquet, a Rolling Stones tribute band, kicked off the first concert on May 15.
Lessons from night one: After the first show, officials flagged a few things to work out, including portable restroom placement, mosquito spraying, and band logistics. A food vendor has committed to attending all future concerts and movie nights.
No more BYOB: The inaugural concert also raised a question for village officials about attendees bringing their own alcoholic beverages. The village board is expected to vote during its June 1 meeting on an ordinance that would explicitly prohibit alcohol on all village-owned property, with an exception for licensed events that obtain a temporary liquor license.
The Elburn Parks Commission also hosts a Movie in the Park series at the same park.
