Not only is Chianti's Carry Out & Catering in Geneva launching a new food truck, but the family-owned Italian kitchen is also working to bring sit-down dining to its Stevens Street location.

The food truck grand opening is Saturday, June 20 from 3-8PM at 321 Stevens St. in Geneva featuring food and live music. Meanwhile, the business has filed with the city to add a restaurant use to its existing carry-out and catering operation.

Here's what to know:

  • Food truck grand opening: The new Chianti's Food Truck rolls out June 20 at the Stevens Street location, with the family describing it as a new chapter for the 30-year-old business. The brick-and-mortar carry-out and catering service will remain as is.

  • The zoning piece: Chianti's is requesting a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment to allow restaurants as a special use in the D-IM (Light Industrial Mixed-Use) zoning district, plus a Special Use permit for its specific location at 321 Stevens St., Suite N. The city's fire department has conditionally approved seating for up to 20 people pending Planning Commission sign-off.

  • Department approvals: The city's health and building departments have both given conditional approval based on Chianti's existing floor plan and equipment, also contingent on Planning Commission approval.

  • Public hearing date: The Geneva Planning and Zoning Commission takes up the petition July 9 at 7PM at Geneva City Hall. Anyone can show up and speak.

There are still a few steps required before you can make dinner reservations, but the project is progressing.
