The Campton Township Cemetery District is seeking voter approval on April 1 to increase its property tax rate, aiming to secure essential funds for the maintenance and improvement of its four cemeteries.
Proposed increase: The referendum requests an additional 0.0073% to the current property tax rate, translating to an increase of $7.30 per $100 of equalized assessed value (EAV).
Current challenges: Revenue falls short of covering necessary cemetery upkeep expenses. The proposed increase would enable the district to meet operational costs and address needed upgrades.
Potential impact: Should the measure fail, the district may need to abandon Foxfield Cemetery due to insufficient funds for its upkeep.
Among the cemeteries managed by the district is God’s Little Acre, a burial ground dating back to the Civil War era.
