Big Hearts of Fox Valley is calling on the community to donate gifts for 625 local children facing financial hardship through its annual Holiday Toy Drive, running Oct. 19 through Nov. 11.
With hundreds of Christmas gift bags to prepare, the local nonprofit says community donations are essential to ensuring every child experiences the excitement and joy of Christmas morning.
Here’s what to know:
More than essentials: Sponsors shop from each child’s personal wish list, but clothing, shoes, and other necessities often use up most of the budget. Donated toys and games make sure kids also get something fun to unwrap.
Teens need the most help: Teen wish lists tend to include pricier necessities, so their gift bags are the hardest to fill. Popular picks include Bluetooth speakers, body sprays and lotions, cozy blankets, fluffy socks, and gift cards for fast food or experiences. LEGO sets and Squishmallows are favorites for younger kids.
Schools are collecting, too: D303 schools are taking donations from their own students and families. They aren’t public drop-off sites, so everyone else should use one of the locations below.
Shop from your couch: Big Hearts also has an Amazon wish list with items it still needs.
Businesses, schools, community organizations, and local residents are all participating. This year's 14 public collection locations include:
Excel Automotive Repair — a year-round donation drop-off location
Monarch Veterinary Clinic
Partners in Mortgage — 1350 E. Main St.
Pure Barre
Smile Haven Dental Studio
St. Charles Dental
Chick-fil-A St. Charles
Hurley & Volk Orthodontics
Wasco Nursery & Garden Center
Goldfish Swim School
Magnolia Soap & Bath Company
City of St. Charles
Bent Dog Yoga + Pilates
Gateway Veterinary Clinic
"So many of our children are asking for things they truly need, like clothing and shoes," said Jennifer Mobley, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Big Hearts of Fox Valley. "We're incredibly grateful that all 625 children have been matched with sponsors, but we still need our community's help to make sure their Christmas bags are filled with more than just necessities."
