A national swim school chain is bringing its 90-degree pools and structured curriculum to the Geneva Commons, where it plans to open a new location in August 2026.

Big Blue Swim School, which operates in 17 states plus nine other Illinois locations, will offer classes for infants as young as three months through adults, with specialized programming for kids with special learning needs.

Here's what to know:

  • Geneva Commons facility: The new location will be at 530 Commons Dr. in Geneva, making it the closest Big Blue outpost for local families.

  • What they offer: Lessons are designed around small class sizes with low swimmer-to-teacher ratios, and every instructor completes 75+ hours of training on Big Blue's proprietary curriculum. Adaptive swim lessons, which are taught by instructors certified in the “Swim Whisperers” methodology, are available for children with unique needs.

  • Beyond classes: The company says it plans to offer a Jr. Swim Team to help young athletes develop swim and teamwork skills, and the facility includes a dedicated viewing area for parents.

  • Free trial available: Families can book a free first swim lesson to try it out before committing to enrollment.

Big Blue was founded in 2009 by competitive swimmer Chris DeJong and began franchising in 2018. You can visit their website to get on the enrollment radar ahead of the August opening.
