Have you ever crossed Randall Road on foot or by bike near Main Street in Batavia?
Then you know it’s not easy.
That’s why Batavia City Council just approved a resolution that formalizes an agreement with the Kane County Division of Transportation for a feasibility study looking at safer options for a pedestrian-and-bicycle crossing in that area.
Here’s what to know:
Where it’s focused: The study centers on a pedestrian and bicycle crossing at or near Randall Road and Main Street, aimed at improving safety and connecting routes on both sides of the road.
Why the city is doing it: The goal is to better link bike paths across Randall Road, including connections to the Fox River Trail, while reducing conflicts between pedestrians, cyclists, and heavy vehicle traffic.
What’s next: This was not approval of a final design — it authorized a Letter of Understanding that outlines cost-sharing and reimbursement from the county for part of the study.
Funding details: The feasibility study contract totals $124,340, with Kane County agreeing to reimburse Batavia up to $29,900 toward the cost.
The crossing location is included in Kane County’s 2025 Safety Action Plan, which could help position the project for next steps if the city decides to move beyond the study phase.
