The Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners announced the selection of Abigail Ingersoll, a graduating Batavia High School senior, for their annual $2,000 scholarship.
The scholarship will support her further education and personal growth as she embarks on her college journey at Iowa State University. Abigail is planning to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Research or Horticulture.
Several teachers recommended Abigail because of her exceptional achievements and inspiring dedication.
“Success in higher education also requires a student who is focused, fully prepared to accept challenges and open to experiences beyond the classroom,” said Kimberly Pearlman Batavia High School English Department. “Abigail is a member of a highly demanding and competitive high school marching band program. She is a member of the Women in STEM Club, and she is a member of multiple honor societies (French, Science and National).”
Abigail plans to pursue a future in environmentally focused horticulture, hoping to research methods of environmental regulation and climate change adaptations.
“I hope to find a way to turn my passion and enthusiasm for plants, nature, and biology into something meaningful that will leave a lasting impact and help the world for generations to come,” she said.
The Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners Scholarship will be awarded every year to a standout high school senior who resides within the boundaries of Batavia Public School District 101 and is planning to pursue a career requiring an associate degree or bachelor’s degree in a Horticultural Science field, such as Agriculture, Botany, Conservation, Ecology, Environmental Science, Forestry, and/or Land Management.
