The Batavia School District 101 board has approved a new five-year strategic plan, setting priorities for the district through 2029.

The plan was developed over several months with input from students, staff, and community members.

Key highlights include:

  • Implementing evidence-based literacy programs across all grades

  • Increasing project-based learning and real-world problem solving in the curriculum

  • Developing personalized learning pathways and college/career readiness programs

  • Conducting regular equity audits to address disparities

  • Strengthening social-emotional learning programs

  • Recruiting and retaining a more diverse teaching staff

  • Improving facilities and technology infrastructure

What to expect

The district will measure progress through various metrics, including achievement test scores, subgroup achievement gaps, and post-secondary readiness indicators. A new data dashboard will be created on the district website to track these metrics.

While the plan passed with a 6-1 vote, one board member raised concerns that it may not fully address issues of bullying and discrimination faced by students of color. Other board members emphasized the plan is meant to be dynamic, with room for adjustments as needed.

The district will now move into the implementation phase, developing specific strategies and action steps for each priority area. Biannual progress reports will be provided to the school board.
