Batavia residents can expect a modest increase in their property taxes next year, following the City Council’s recent budget and tax levy decisions.

By tapping into reserve funds, the city minimized the financial impact on homeowners while addressing a $3.5M projected budget deficit.

  • Tax increase: Homeowners with a property valued at $300K will see an estimated $34 annual increase on their property tax bill.

  • Reserve funds: The city will use $3M in reserve funds, reducing the property tax levy increase to $500K — down from the initially proposed $1 million.

  • Budget highlights: The approved $164M budget includes funding for three new staff positions, infrastructure upgrades like a new City Hall roof, and street improvements.

  • Debate and approval: The levy passed narrowly in an 8-6 vote, with some council members expressing concerns about relying heavily on reserves.
