The Batavia Active Transportation Advisory Commission recently shared how the city’s long-term Bike and Pedestrian Plan is incorporating street, sidewalk, and crossing projects across town — including several improvements on deck for 2026 and beyond.
Here’s what you should know:
More than 87 bike and pedestrian projects are planned through 2033, ranging from new crosswalks and sidewalks to full bike lane additions throughout the city.
Several projects are already finished, including the new Republic Road sidewalk, new bike lanes on McKee Road added as part of nearby Pulte development, and a new neighborhood trail in the Winding Creek subdivision.
Millview Drive’s bike lanes remain a work in progress, with only half completed so far. The south end is expected to be revisited during future roadway reconstruction.
Phase 2 of the Route 31 “road diet” downtown is in design, focusing on improved pedestrian crossings and traffic calming between Millview and McKee.
A potential pedestrian bridge or tunnel near Randall Road and Main Street is being studied. An updated is expected in January.
Batavia is also working toward improving its national bicycle-friendly city ranking, with city leaders discussing modest funding increases to help move from Bronze to Silver status over time.
Residents interested in exploring existing and future connections can also view Kane County’s public bike and pedestrian resources page.
Watch the full meeting recording (discussion begins at about 20-minute mark).
