A Batavia parent advocacy group is giving families a reason to put the phones down this spring.
Distraction-Free Batavia is hosting "Unplug Batavia," a family scavenger hunt built around riddles that lead solvers to six scenic spots around town. The July 11 event ties into Unplug Illinois Day and is designed as a walkable, kid-friendly way to spend time together without screens.
Here's what to know:
How it works: Families solve six riddles to track down six beautiful locations in Batavia, all doable at your own pace on Saturday, July 11.
Getting the clues: Email [email protected] for a digital copy, or grab a paper copy at Wilson St Mercantile, 222 E. Wilson St.
Getting around: Free parking is available on Houston Street, and every clue location is a short walk from there.
Who it's for: Organizers built the route to be walkable and kid-friendly (including toddlers), offering fun for all ages.
Distraction-Free Batavia describes its mission as promoting intentional technology use — and this scavenger hunt is part of its effort to get that message into the community in a hands-on way.
