One of downtown Batavia’s more noticeable vacant buildings could soon be back in action.
The city’s Historic Preservation Commission is set to review facade updates for 101 South Batavia Avenue — an empty building that was recently purchased with the intent to turn it into a dry-cleaning location.
Here’s what to know:
Dry cleaner planned: Marberry Aurora LLC purchased the property in late 2025 with plans to establish a dry-cleaning facility at the site.
Vacant for years: The building has been vacant for about six years and has deteriorated enough that it now needs significant repair.
A building with history: Batavia Township records show the structure was built in 1940 and previously operated as a Texaco gas station before later becoming a liquor store.
Facade changes proposed: The proposal calls for removing three stone panels and installing two pairs of large dark bronze aluminum windows on the east side of the building, where service door openings once existed.
If the commission signs off, it would mark another step in what appears to be an active redevelopment of a vacant building in a prominent location along Route 31.
