The Batavia Chamber of Commerce announces the recipients of its 2026 Inspire Scholarships, recognizing four outstanding Batavia High School seniors for their ambition, leadership, and future career goals.

In a release, the Chamber said the Inspire Scholarship program, now in its sixth year, reflects the diverse strengths of the Chamber’s membership, supporting students pursuing paths in entrepreneurship, business, workforce development, and skilled trades. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 award paid to the institution they will attend.

According to Margaret Perreault, president and CEO of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, this year’s program saw a record number of applicants.

“The growth of this program has been incredible, both in participation and in the caliber of applicants,” said Perreault. “These students are already demonstrating the drive, creativity, and leadership we value in our business community. Selecting just one recipient in each category was no easy task.”

Perreault also noted the important role Chamber member businesses play in promoting the program.

“When our members share this opportunity with their employees and their families, it reinforces their commitment to supporting education and future career success,” she said. “We’re proud to partner with them in making this program possible.”

The 2026 Inspire Scholarship recipients are:

Inspiring Entrepreneurship – Ibrahem Kadhum

Ibrahem Kadhum has already demonstrated a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit, having launched six ventures—two of which remain active today. Ibraham graduated in December and is currently attending DePaul University.

Through his experiences, he has learned the importance of standing out in a competitive market by offering something unique and meaningful.

Inspiring Women in Business – Sarah Alf

Sarah Alf plans to study integrated business and engineering at the University of Michigan, with the goal of pursuing a leadership role that blends strategy and innovation.

She credits her Batavia High School Incubator mentor, Emily Matile, for encouraging her to explore business and helping build her confidence in the field.

Inspiring Contributors to a Chamber Business – Maya Leaver

Maya Leaver, who plans to major in psychology on a pre-physician assistant track at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, has been a valued employee at New Moon Vegan since 2023.

As one of the business’s first team members, she has taken on a leadership role in training new hires while emphasizing strong customer care and community values. She believes the communication, empathy, and teamwork skills she has developed will serve her well in her future healthcare career.

Inspiring Career & Technical Achievers – TJ Nystrom

TJ Nystrom will attend Waubonsee Community College to pursue a career as an automotive technician. With a long-term goal of contributing to his family’s business, Garage 31, he is especially interested in emerging automotive technologies, including electric vehicles and advanced safety systems.

The scholarship recipients will be recognized at Batavia High School’s Senior Honors Night on Tuesday, May 12.

“We congratulate these exceptional students and wish them continued success as they take the next step in their journeys,” Perreault said.
