In an uplifting display of community spirit, the St. Charles AMVETS Post recently organized a scenic paddle boat ride on the Fox River for local veterans, continuing a cherished tradition that has spanned over three decades.
The event allowed 17 veterans and one spouse from the Silver Glen Senior Living Center and other homebound veterans in the area to embark on a relaxing journey down the Fox River. In addition, 11 veterans volunteered as chaperones, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
The cruise featured more than just scenic views. Attendees were treated to a complimentary meal and live entertainment provided by fellow veteran Steve Pardo, who serenaded the group with his guitar. Adding to the day's significance, each veteran received a ceremonial coin, courtesy of a local Edward Jones advisor.
This community effort saw contributions from all four local veterans' posts and their auxiliaries, highlighting the strong bonds within the Tri-Cities' veteran community.
The AMVETS Post isn't stopping here. A second paddle boat ride is already in the works for July, this time benefiting veterans from Hines VA Hospital.
It's clear that this longstanding tradition continues to make waves in the hearts of our local heroes.
