Most tea shops don't have a kiln in the back. Steep N' Clay does.
The family-owned Elgin shop, which runs a working pottery studio alongside its tea collection, is opening a second location at 314 W. State St. in Geneva on April 18.
Here's what to know:
Two crafts, one shop: Steep N' Clay sources teas from every continent except Antarctica and holds to a straightforward standard: if they won't drink it, they won't sell it. On the ceramics side, every piece is handmade and goes through roughly two weeks of drying and firing, so each cup or teapot varies slightly from the next.
Already an Elgin fixture: The original downtown Elgin location has built a following around tasting events — regular Sunday morning sessions and specialty tastings focused on specific varieties.
The opening: April 18, 10AM to 5PM, 314 W. State St. in downtown Geneva.
