The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is opening a new public archery range at Mill Creek Greenway Forest Preserve in Elburn on Saturday, June 6, starting at 11AM.

Here's what else to know:

  • Grand opening details: The June 6 event (free for all ages) includes a ribbon cutting, a live archery demo by the Kane County 4-H Program, Try Archery stations staffed by certified instructors, and treats and giveaways. The first 100 participants receive a commemorative patch. Equipment and safety instruction are provided. The range opens for public shooting at 1PM.

  • Permits coming soon: The range will remain open through June. Starting July 1, a permit will be required. Annual permits run $40 for residents and $65 for non-residents (discounted to $20 and $35 if purchased after Dec. 31). Daily permits are $10 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

  • Classes on the way: The district plans to offer archery classes through the range. Staff have been certified as USA Archery Level 1 instructors, completing training alongside instructors from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

According to the district, details will be posted at kaneforest.com as they're finalized.
