Kane County Clerk John Cunningham has been opening up his Geneva office for behind-the-scenes tours of the elections process, walking small groups through everything from ballot printing to signature verification.
The next general election is Tuesday, November 3, and the clerk's office says anyone can request a visit before then.
Here's what to know:
What you'll see: Tours cover all three voting methods (early voting, vote by mail, and in-person Election Day voting) plus a walkthrough of how ballots get printed, folded, mailed, returned, and scanned.
Security built in: Every stage has both a Republican and Democratic election judge involved, and the office says cameras cover the ballot processing room at all times.
Track your own ballot: Voters can sign up for Ballottrax to get a text, email, or phone call once their mail-in ballot is accepted.
Questions answered: The county's Election Call Center fields voter questions about registration status and mail-in ballots year-round.
“We all like to receive praise but I also appreciate criticism. Unfortunately, there are times when misinformation gets out,” Cunningham said in a news release.
