If you’re a Geneva resident, have you been wondering what the result of all those facilities surveys would be?
If City Council approves the proposal, Geneva residents will vote on April 1 on a $68 million bond measure to address aging police and fire facilities. The measure could lead to property tax increases but aims to resolve public safety issues that have affected the city for some time.
Facility problems: The police station on East James Street, over a century old in parts, suffers from severe infrastructure issues, including leaks and inadequate workspaces. Fire Station 2 lacks proper accommodations for female firefighters.
Planned improvements: The funds would build a larger police station near South Street and replace Fire Station 2 on Fargo Boulevard. Additional upgrades could include spaces for emergency management use.
Taxpayer impact: Approval would raise property taxes by approximately $200 annually for the average Geneva homeowner.
Community engagement: City leaders plan town hall meetings and facility tours to inform residents and encourage public input.
